Featuring Sound Artist Ben Mirin
Ben Mirin is a sound artist, bioacoustics researcher, conservationist and science communicator. He leads expeditions around the world recording animal sounds to advance scientific research and create music and art that inspires and educates future conservationists. Creator and host of Wild Beats on National Geographic Kids and National Geographic WILD, Ben is also a Safina Center Fellow and co-creator of the computer game BeastBox hosted by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Formerly Artist in Residence at the Bronx Zoo, Ben is a former TED speaker, an award-winning Fellow at the Explorers Club, and a volunteer at the New York Audubon Society. He has produced three films and written about science for prestigious outlets including Smithsonian, National Geographic, and the California Academy of Sciences. He lives in Brooklyn, New York.
Film Synopsis
Remixing Madagascar follows Ben Mirin on his exploration of Madagascar’s wildlife, music, and conservation. Ben set out to explore the island and record the sounds of the country’s unique lemurs, birds, and other animals. Utilizing these recordings, Mirin transforms the voices of nature, along with those of the people he meets during the journey, into original music that celebrates the biodiversity and conservation of one of the most unique places on the planet.
